I am writing to inform you that my family and I had missed our connection due to a very poor service of your agents.
On the 22nd October 2011, my husband, my 9 months baby and myself flew from Doha, Qatar to Saint-Denis, La Reunion. We had a 7 hours stopover at the Seychelles airport which we spend at the lounge airport. An hour prior to departure, we were getting prepared and the lounge manager came to make an announcement to all as the flight was delayed by at least one hour. So we sat down, exhausted by the waiting and tried to keep my baby entertained. An hour later, three airport crew agents came to us and yelled that we are needed at the gate as the plane is taking off soon. We quickly put our luggage together, in less than a minute we were downstairs at the gate. We introduced ourselves and were ready to go when a lady firmly said that it is too late and there is nothing she can do.
15 minutes later we saw the plan taking off. Gutted, we asked for new options; we got offered to stay at our own cost in the Seychelles until the next flight which was 4 days later or to take the flight to Mauritius (which was in fact, the one delayed) and then from Mauritius to La Reunion, that way we could be at La Reunion during the night. We chose the second option and stayed 3 hours in the airport crew's office to purchase the flight tickets. Eventually and just fifteen minutes from the flight time, we got our tickets but only the ones to Mauritius so we would have to go through the same stress and waiting over there to get the tickects to la Reunion. We didn’t have a choice so flew to Mauritius. At arrivals we has less than an hour to explained our situation, buy 3 flight tickets to La Reunion.
This error put me and my family in a difficult situation; we ended up spending more than 24 hours between flights and airports and spending an extra 1300 Euros. We were simply devastated by the gross of the situation, not to mention the worries for my baby. This caused us considerable inconvenience.
I am writing to ask you to please make up the shortfall immediately and to ensure that such errors do not happen again. The manager should have mentioned the flight number and air company when saying a delay announcement. Also, the crew must make sure if 3 people are missing at the gate but passed security and boarding, then they should be found, especially in such a small airport! I enclose a copy of the apologetic testimonial letter written by the lounge manager.
